WHAT CAN I TAKE ON BOARD

If you're travelling with Thalys, you are allowed to carry a large amount of luggage. Find out more here!

SUITCASES AND HAND LUGGAGE

Each passenger is allowed to take two suitcases and one piece of hand luggage on board Thalys. Bear in mind the following:

  • there are no weight restrictions but the maximum size of each suitcase is: 75x53x30cm
  • don't forget to label your luggage with your full name!

Where can I store my luggage?

You can store your luggage in:

  • Luggage racks above the seats.
  • Spaces situated at the end of each carriage for larger items.
  • Floor spaces located between some of the four seats.

Prohibited Items

It may be obvious, but it is prohibited to carry any of the following products:

  • Unusual goods such as strange scents
  • Dangerous goods such as explosives or flammable products
  • Chemical products, knives and weapons
  • Goods for commercial purposes such as goods in large quantities, which amounts to the the transport of merchandise, which should be carried by a specialised freight company.
  • Products which are prohibited by customs or other government institutions (e.g drugs).

PET, BIKES AND WHEELCHAIRS


Pets on Thalys

Small pets can be taken on board free of charge. These must meet the following requirements:
• They must be transported in a special basket or cage measuring 55cmx30cmx30 cm max.

Large dogs are only permitted when a ‘dog fare’ ticket has been purchased for them.

A number of rules also apply to these dogs:

  • you must keep them on your lap, on a leash and muzzled or they must be seated on the floor
  • For pets that are not in a special carrier and which weigh more than 5kg, you must purchase a dog fare ticket. This fare costs 35% of the Semi-Flex fare in Standard Class (Comfort 2)
  • You can reserve a ‘dog fare’ ticket for your pet at the following locations:
  • In France: at the booking offices at all stations, at a SNCF kiosk or at a renowned travel agency.

Guide dogs and disability assistance dogs can travel on board free of charge.



Bikes on Thalys

You can take your bike as carry-on luggage as long as it either folds up or, with the front wheel removed, can be held in a loose cover measuring up to 120 x 90cm.

Wheelchair-friendly services

Are you, or is one of your group, travelling in a wheelchair? Specially designed places have been provided, so that you do not have to leave your wheelchair during the journey.
These seats are located in coaches 1, 11 and 21. There are disabled toilets near these coaches. If you wish to store the wheelchair, you can of course do this in one of the storage spaces.

Travelling with a baby

Are you travelling with a baby? Thalys offers baby changing rooms in coaches 7, 17 and 27, as well as a sink and a bottle warmer.

Thalys Welcome Bar

Feeling hungry? Then head to the spacious Thalys Welcome Bar, located in the middle of the train. If you're travelling with a Premium ticket you will be served breakfast, lunch, a light meal or an evening meal at your seat, depending on the time of day. Vegetarian options are available.


 

Compensation for delays

The E-voucher

In the event of a delay on a Thalys train for a minimum of 30, 60 or 120 minutes, Thalys International will (unless it is considered a case of force majeure) offer compensation in the form of electronic Thalys vouchers (valid for 12 months) to the value of 20, 50 or 100% of the ticket price respectively.

Reimbursement

Only with trains with a delay of 60 or 120 minutes (unless it is considered a case of force majeure) will you be eligible for a reimbursement of 25% or 50% of the ticket price. The amount will be transferred to your bank account. Please note: amounts of less than €4 are not reimbursed.
