Fares for children aged under 4 and 4 to 11 years inclusive without a discount railcard

Child fares for travel on TGV, Intercités and TER


Up to 4 years of age:

  • Your child travels free of charge but does not have their own seat, and must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap for the duration of the journey.
  • Some services offer a supplementary charge for infants so that they can have their own seat. Please call 0844 848 5848 to make your booking if you would prefer your infant to have a seat.

Aged 4 years and over:
Child fares are available to those passengers aged 4 to 11 inclusive. These fares are subject to availability.

Eurostar child fares (travel between France, Belgium and the UK)

France Spain High Speed child fares (travel between Spain and France)


Up to 4 years of age:

CityNightLine Child fares

  • CNL France-Germany:

Up to 4 years of age:

Your child can travel free of charge without their own bed, and will need to share with a parent or guardian for the duration of the journey. If you wish to have a bed for your infant, you would need to book a child ticket.


Aged 4 years and over:

Child fares are available to those passengers aged 4 to 11 inclusive. These fares are subject to availability.

  • CNL outside France:

Up to 5 years of age:

Your child can travel free of charge without their own bed, and will need to share with a parent or guardian for the duration of the journey. If you wish to have a bed for your infant, you would need to book a child ticket.


Aged 6 years and over:

Child fares are available to those passengers aged 6 to 14 inclusive. These fares are subject to availability.

 


TGV Lyria child fares (travel between France and Switzerland)


Up to 4 years of age:

  • Your child travels free of charge but does not have their own seat, and must be seated on a parent or guardian’s lap for the duration of the journey.
  • Some services offer a supplementary charge for infants so that they can have their own seat. You would need to call 0844 848 5848* to make your booking if you would prefer your infant to have a seat.

  • 6-14  Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia
  • 6-15  Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland
  • 6-16  Finland

SNCF discount railcards for families and children

SNCF Child+ Card - for use on French services only

 

• This card will entitle you to up to 50% off tickets on many major long-distance and local train services for a whole year, subject to availability.
• Four accompanying adults or children can also benefit from using the SNCF Child+ Card, provided they travel together.
• To qualify for the card your child needs to be under 12 on the day you start using the card.

You cannot use your card to make a purchase on our website.

Unaccompanied minors

Within France:

 

Junior & Cie (formerly Jeune Voyageur Service): the children's attendant service

With Junior & Cie, children from 4 to 14 years can travel alone safely during the French school holidays and weekends.

Your child is accompanied throughout the whole journey. A trained, experienced attendant will look after your child at the departure station and on board the train. On arrival at your child’s destination, they will be taken to meet their appointed adult.

On Eurostar

 

Passengers aged 12-15 can travel alone if they have a full, valid passport or identity card issued in their own name and are in possession of an Unaccompanied Minors form completed in front of a member of staff.

 

This must be handed to a member of Eurostar staff at check-in. Children may also be asked to show the form to on board staff.

 

Children are not allowed to be unaccompanied on the direct service between London/Ashford and Lyon, Avignon and Marseille.

 

Travellers aged between 16 and 18 can travel independently. But under-12s must travel with a companion aged 16 or over.
