Brimming with charm and stunning scenery, the city of Basel has something for everyone. Take a wander through the Old Town and marvel at the cathedral, Basel Münster, or take a trip across the River Rhine on the unique Rheinfahre.
If you fancy checking out an art gallery with a bit of a difference, the Museum Jean Tinguely is a great choice. Located in a prime position right by the River Rhine, this fascinating museum devotes itself to the interesting and unique mechanical art of Jean Tinguely, who himself grew up in the city of Basel. After your visit to the museum, why not head to Theaterplatz to see the Tinguely Fountain, another of Jean Tinguely's works.
A trip to the zoo is always a great way to spend the day. Dating back to 1874, Zoo Basel is the oldest zoo in Switzerland. The zoo is set in beautiful green gardens and is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing stroll as you explore the different areas. The Africa exhibit is amazing and home to zebras, ostriches and hippos.
Kids will love the Ape House, the newly constructed outdoor adventure playground allows children to climb ropes and nets - just like the apes.
Spend an afternoon wandering around Switzerland's largest collection of paintings, dating as far back as the 15th century. Highlights you shouldn't miss are works by Monet, Picasso and Cezanne. If you're feeling hungry, there's a lovely bistro on site. If it's a sunny day, sit outside in the pretty courtyard.
