Basel Münster

Built between the 11th and 16th centuries, Basel's impressive cathedral is an enchanting must-see. Displaying a beautiful combination of Romanesque and Gothic style, the cathedral stands proudly as a key landmark of the city. Be sure to take the climb up St. Martin's Tower for stunning views of both the River Rhine and the city. After enjoying the fantastic views, take a leisurely walk around the cathedral's surrounding area and check out the cathedral square, home to some impressive medieval buildings.          

Basel's Old Town

If you are after a relaxing afternoon simply exploring, Basel's Old Town is the perfect place to do just that. Take a leisurely stroll along the cobbled streets and discover the beautiful architecture in this charming, picturesque part of the city. As you explore the Old Town, you will come across magnificent medieval buildings and plenty of quaint shops to pop into. It's well worth heading to the Market Square (Marktplatz) just to wander round, particular points of interest are the cathedral and the Town Hall.

Fancy a coffee after all this sightseeing? Why not sit back and relax in one of the many cafes and soak up the atmosphere. The Old Town is also a great place for a spot of lunch or dinner with a range of restaurants to choose from.

Botanical Garden

If you fancy a bit of calm and tranquillity after a busy schedule of sightseeing, then check out the Botanical Garden - located at the University of Basel. Although conveniently located in the city, you will feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle as you wander around these beautiful green gardens. The variety of interesting plants to see here is truly impressive, the orchids and cacti are particularly worth checking out. What's more, you can even get a taste of the rainforest as you explore the Tropical House. The Botanical Garden is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon of rest and relaxation.
