Have fun on Lake Annecy

During the summer months, Lake Annecy offers a host of activities, on, above and alongside the water. Get a birds-eye view of the lake and its beautiful surroundings from a hot air balloon or paraglider, or even from a light aircraft.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, there's a cycle path which will take you all the way to Albertville, mountain biking and even segway tours.

For watersports lovers, the Lake provides opportunities for waterskiing, sailing, wakeboarding and kayaking. You'll find it a challenge just to fit it all in!

Although Annecy isn't a ski resort itself, it is gateway to the Lake Annecy Ski Resorts area, comprising the individual resorts of La Clusaz, Le Grand Bornand, Manigod and St-Jean-de-Sixt.

The area is just 30 minutes' drive from Annecy, so you could even combine a few days skiing with a short break in the city.

La Clusaz is the largest and most well known of the resorts with over 80 slopes to choose from. The village of Le Grand Bornand has one of the top 5 snowparks in France and is a must for anyone wanting to brush up on their freestyle skills while Manigod and St Jean de Sixt are great family destinations and good for beginners.

Gorges du Fier

Located 10km outside Annecy, the Gorges du Fier has been created by the River Fier cutting a narrow canyon through the soft limestone. Explore the canyon on a 25m-high walkway attached to the rock face, with the river running below. You'll see the Giants' Cooking Pots, and the Sea of Rocks, all created through the power of the water. Learn how the gorge was formed and the legend of the gorge - the story of the unfaithful Diane, her husband the knight and the page boy. Saucy!
